On Saturday 5th September solved hr joined Braunston Press, Cambells Daventry and two dogs in walking up Scafell Pike; the highest mountain in England at 978m, 3,209ft , in aid of Macmillan Cancer Nurses.
We arrived at the National Trust Campsite at Wasdale on a gloriously sunny Friday afternoon where our tents were erected with enthusiasm as we looked forward to our challenge for the next day.
As we ate an alfresco meal accompanied with hundreds of midges the sun slowly dipped behind the hills and we retired to our tents (mine laughingly called a 2-man tent, more 1 man and his bag!).
At 03:00 we were all awoke to a loud gushing sound as heavy rain and hard winds hit the campsite. Fortunately though by breakfast time the sky was clear and we were able to enjoy a clear blue sky.
At 09:00 we commenced our walk up our chosen route occasionally looking back at the stunning scenery that was falling behind us, namely Wastwater Lake which was getting smaller and smaller as we climbed higher and higher.

After a number of stops for breathers, water intake and to rest burning thighs, we reached the highest point after 3 hours where we enjoyed stunning views, a photo on the highest point and a well deserved lunch.
The walk raised in the region of £1000 for the charity which is a charity close to Braunston prints hearts……..next year Ben Nevis!!
